The
Fairchild Metro is one of the most popular commuter aircraft
in the class up to 20 seats. It is a twin engine turboprop
aircraft and is being manufactured by the Fairchild Aircraft
Corporation in San Antonio, TX. The fact that the aircraft
is faster than its competition and that it is pressurized
makes it attractive to commuter airlines. The large rear
door makes the aircraft well suited for cargo operators
as well. The first prototype of the Metro flew in August
of 1969 and the newest version of this aircraft, the Metro
23, which has a higher take off weight, received certification
in 1991.
